MPUMELELO VICTOR MITI 19 January 2016

Today, 19 January, 2016, we did an interview with Mpumelelo Victor Miti from the township Munsieville, Krugersdorp, South Africa.  What an amazing man.  Enjoyed the two hours that we spent with him in the Munsieville chapel.  Here is just a portion of his story:
Victor (that is what he goes by) was born and raised in Munsieville.  His father was a Baptist pastor but Victor went to a Catholic school.  I mention this because it was important to his later introduction to the church.  In the Catholic church only the priest could read the scriptures and he always had a desire to read the word of God, so he stopped going to church.   One day in 1990 while walking to work, he saw a book in a pile of rubble.  When he picked it up it was dusty and wet. He felt the desire to rescue it and take it home.  He read it and said that all the "ites" were interesting.  He noticed on the cover page the words written, "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints".  After being unsuccessful in finding this mysterious church, the book was put on his shelf.  Ten years later while walking to his snack shack, two young men in white shirts approached him.  They told him they wanted to talk to him about God. The invitation was made to come to his home later, and the teaching began.  During the discussion, he noticed the words on their name tags - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He then remembered the book that he had found ten years earlier with those words on the cover page.  The book was retrieved from the shelf and shown to the missionaries. The church that he had been looking for ten years was finally found.  (A note here:  One day the missionaries brought him to the Krugersdorp chapel and showed him the church movie, "How Rare A Possession", about a man in Italy whose story is almost identical to Bro. Miti's experience with finding a Book of Mormon.  This was another testimony to him that the church was true.)  His baptism date was in January 2001 and from that day he has never missed a Sabbath day at church.  He watched Munsieville grow from being part of a ward, to its own branch meeting at a school, and then as Branch President accepted the challenge from his Stake President to make it a ward which they did in two years...2014.

Another story within this one.  It is a little confusing, so stay with me. While reading the book that he found, their was a name written on one of the pages - Elizabeth Mosime.  He assumed she had owned the book prreviously but didn't know her.  Years after he was baptized, his second son was dating a young lady that had a 9-month old child.  She died suddenly leaving this little boy with no one to care for him.  Bro. Miti and his wife lovingly took this child into their home to raise him.  This little baby's surname was Mosime and with further investigation found out that Elizabeth Mosime was his grandmother who also had passed away.  Heavenly Father has a master plan - Elizabeth Mosime, Victor Miti and this little baby was all part of it.  Victor said that he is the guardian of this book until after "his grandson" goes on mission and then he will give it to him as part of his heritage.  His grandson is now five years old and loves Primary!

Look carefully and you can see Elizabeth's name.

The birth certificate - Bro. Miti gave the baby the name Victor

  1. That is such a fantastic story; I am constantly amazed at how Heavenly Father can fit all the pieces together at exactly the right time and in exactly the right place. It happens over and over again; why is it so hard to trust that in my own life?
